Volunteering opportunities at Emmaus North Staffs
Author: John Webbe, Executive Lead, Emmaus North Staffs
Emmaus North Staffs is the volunteering partner within the Changing Futures project. Our funding enables us to employ a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, Carmen (email: carmensandin@emmausnorthstaffs.org.uk) to support clients from across the entire Changing Future project who are keen to volunteer some of their time. Please contact Carmen for any volunteering queries.
As everyone knows, volunteering can be a massive boost to your self-confidence, work related experiences, and social skills. Volunteering can get you experiences in a wide variety of situations, excellent for your CV, and is a proven route into paid employment for so many people. At Emmaus North Staffs, a third of our paid staff team are former volunteers with the charity! And even our Executive Lead, John, started his career as a volunteer for environmental charity Groundwork in Oldham before securing a paid job with Groundwork Stoke-on-Trent 25 years ago.
At Emmaus North Staffs we have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, and every volunteer is critical in helping us deliver what we need to do each and every day. These various roles include: customer service and front-of-house in our two Hanley retail outlets; helping the van team with deliveries and collections; warehouse support; sorting incoming stock; social media; finance & admin; eBay support; woodworking; and many other roles.
More details on each can be found here: https://emmaus.org.uk/north-staffs/support-us/volunteer-roles/
At Emmaus we give back to each volunteer by covering bus fares, providing lunch, and giving each volunteer 50% discount on reuse items in our shops.
